Back to the doldrums

The fires are pretty much out now, and the world is falling back into its normal rhythms. Caleb and I returned home from Fresno yesterday evening and life is once again predictable. I have always wished I was a super spontaneous, spur of the moment, kind of person. You know, the kind who decide to get up and drive to the mountains and do not worry about what will happen when they get there. Me, I would first have to know who is going, how long are we going to stay, what time will we drive back, and most importantly, what will we eat? I have never once jumped in my car and just drove. I feel pretty reckless when I change lanes on the freeway without slowing down or using my blinker. That is just who I am. I have always been a "follow the rules" person. One of my saddest memories was created because I followed the rules. The day I graduated all the seniors gathered in the auditorium about an hour before the ceremony. there we were repeatedly told not to wave at the audience. Just walk straight down the path and do not cause a scene. the rule was ment to keep the flow of students going. when it was time to walk we were paired off. I chose to walk with my good friend Katie Mcllulin. She is known for being my opposite. Loud and full of energy, Katie has never known what rules were. The music begins playing and we are signaled to begin walking. Right as we got about half way down the field to my horror Katie begins waving her arms and shouting back to the cheering crown. I, afraid to break the rule, continued to walk forward with my eyes looking straight forward. At the end of the ceremony when my family came to meet me on the Field with warm hugs and words of congratulations, my Mother asked me why I did not look at them. She said they were cheering for me and waving their arms trying to get my attention. I felt so bad. Because of a stupid rule I missed my cheering section. I will never forget that feeling.
So after that day I decided to break every rule ever given to me! Kidding, but I did decide that I would never again follow a rule mindlessly. LOL so on the upbeat,

Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires!

Here are some maps of where the fires are in Southern California. This first map is of all of the fires. The little blobs of green are the fires that have been 100% contained as of yesterday. The second map is a more detailed map of our immediate area. As you can see the two fires around us have been contained. I am pretty sure the others that are burning are pretty far in the mountain.
Jaleah called me and told me that all San Bernardino County schools are closed today. (lucky, she works for the San Bernardino School District). So, I check the college homepage, and Valley is also closed because so many staff members need to take care of their property or family.
ALL DMVs are Closed. how dumb is that , we went to the DMV in Redlands, and every store is open they have no fire threat at all. and the DMV is closed "due to smoke" Dumb. I don't understand why all of the DMVs in our area need to close. That's government jobs for you.

Pants on Fire?

So, this morning I woke up to see the entire sky around me filled with smoke. That's right it is fire season in southern California. I am not sure how many fires are going right now but I know it is a bunch. It is kinda scary and reminds me of the year we had to evacuate our home because the fire was close to our neighborhood. (the fire fighters actually stopped the fire right behind my brothers house). My dad was feeling nervous too. This morning when I left for school, I saw him in the front yard, he said he was getting ready to evacuate. I am pretty sure there are no fires close enough to threaten our neighborhood, but I did hear that Cal State San Bernardino was evacuated this morning, and that the homes around were put on alert.
I just pray God will keep us safe and protect all of the men fighting the fire.

More pics of papas party

Here is another slideshow from papa's birthday bash. :)

We have a puppy! WHOOT!

Caleb finally broke down and bought a puppy. He is a two month old, Australian Shepard and leopard hound mix. Cute, right? NOPE! this thing cries constantly. Ahhh. Yesterday was my first full day home with him and I almost lost my mind. LOL in the end i took him to my mom's house and he was fine. Later I read on the Internet that buying a dog pen and setting it up in the part of the house Caleb and I frequent was supposed to help the dog settle in. So, I went to petsmart, spent more that I wanted to, but realized it was SOO worth it when I came home to a whimpering dog. The dog is getting used to his pen and his crying has lessen so I guess it worked. Other than the crying he is a cute dog. Caleb is in love with him.
We could not agree on a name until late last night. First we thought, Jeffery, Dingo, Aussie, Spotty, Shadow, Bogart, Legend, epic, chumadumlimpawa, Dundee, Lots of weird stuff, but we finally settled on WHOOT! lol, so that is the dogs name, whoot. we were going to name it Wooten, but I think that one is taken.

We started out buying a dog for Joey, but unfortunately he does not like the puppy.

The apple clock has never ever had the right time, so it was donated to the puppy. My mom says the ticking sound is supposed to help comfort the dog. (Cant go against what mom says)

Get Fuzzy.

Just another day with the Dillons

So, this week has been uneventful so far (lol although it is only Tuesday). The church, pretty much, has the new sound system going. I have a mid-term in my history class tomorrow. Scary. And that is pretty much it.
Caleb had the day off yesterday so that was nice. Although, we stayed home cause he had to pay some bills and deal with paperwork. So, Joey and I just did what we could to stay out of the way.

Good news is I MIGHT GET A NEW PUPPY!!!!!!!!!. I mean, Caleb may, if he wants to, be getting another dog cause I told him Joey seems kinda lonely. :) If, my dear sweet husband who I love with all my heart, does let me get a puppy will pick it tomorrow. Fun! I think I will name it "Princess Zaria of Tanzania". That has a nice ring to it.

Just cause I want to.

I am posting just because I am in a posting kinda mood and something has been on my mind all day. since yesterday in fact. Yesterday afternoon I had speech class. In class we did impromptu speeches. These speeches are totally off the cuff. What we did was, we individually got in front of the class and then the teacher asked us a question. everyone's question was different so there was no way to prepare any kind of answer. So, a few kids when up and did there thing, and than no one went up so I decided it must be my turn. I walked to the front of the class and waited for my question. This is what I was asked " If you had a child, and a year after that child was born the hospital found out they gave you the wrong baby, would you give up the baby ?" This question took me by surprise because it was quite hard to just come up with an answer to that. So I took a minute to think (literally, standing in front of the class) I decided that I would give the child back. My reason was "in the end that child would find out he/she is not biologically mine AND that when the child was small I had the chance to restore that child it's biological parents but I did not." "I would be afraid that the child I raised would than find me selfish for looking out for my own feelings rather than the best interest of the child." to this my teacher looked me right in the eyes and said "Your not a mother are you?" (at that several other ladies chimed in and said no shes not)and said "no, but understand that a mother would love the child no matter what, but I am adopted and I also know what it is like to grow up and wonder what your parents look like." To me I was trying to do what was right for the child. Not for me. But apparently that was the wrong answer, cause I totally got shot down. I don't know, the whole conversation really bothered me. and it made me sad but I don't know why. I guess cause my maternal instincts were questioned.
So, I said all that to ask what would your answer have been?
