San Bernardino Orange Show

The orange show is to blame for our Graduation rain out.
There is a great Urban legend that may actually have some truth to it in San Bernardino. Legend has it that the Orange Show Fair grounds are built on an old Indian cemetery. The Indians of course did not appreciate the fact that some "white men" (really it was probably some Mexicans lol) came and tore up their sacred land just to build a place of entertainment, so they cursed the fair grounds. Although I do not know just what all went on in the cursing process, I do know that as long as I have lived every year the Orange Show has opened it has always always always rained. Why ? because the curse is every time the orange show opens it will rain on the first day. Now, I am not sure that I believe random people can just curse things and cause the Earth to do their will. But the evidence in their favor is very strong.
I mean, I did get rained out of a graduation ceremony which just so happened to be on the same day as the opening of the orange show. If that was not bad planning on the schools part, than I don't know what is.

***5/25/2011 for the record, I am HISPANIC. OMgoodness people. Get a clue. Stop judging me on one post. It is a joke. You know, funny haha. Really just because something is written in an overly racial tone it must be a white person writing it? how racist are you exactly? in fact here is a picture of my family and I (most of the men in my family are carpenters of some sort, thus the "Mexicans build things" joke. all I'm sayin' is LIGHTEN UP! you are going to give yourself wrinkles if you keep walking around all mad like that; and to be honest with that kind of attitude you probably aren't too attractive anyway***

Only an ignorant white person would make such a racist and stupid comment like that..... Why would it have to be mexicans??? Just like a white person to put down a mexican....its not our fault you feel so threaten by us....

ummm, to all the anon comments, I am mexican!my children just happen to look very white (they take after their dad). and if you read this blog often you would know most things are said in a sarcastic tone. so please lighten up a little, life is not that serious and commenting on a random persons blog is not going to make the world a better place, it is just going to make you feel like your opinon counts. Which maybe it does if it is pointed in the right direction, this is not the right direction. lol

I'm from SB and came across your site while looking for info about the "curse". This topic also came up a couple years back, and it occurred to me how skewed the perspective on it is. Rainfall, however inconvenient, is generally viewed as a good thing. When you live in a desert valley, rainfall is usually really great to have at anytime.

There is a curse on the orange show grounds, no matter how far up or back they move the date, it will rain because the land was taken from the indians. The remark about a mexican did it was far fetched but u have 2 realize that americans are pissed because we have rules about citizenship and mexicans are ignoring the laws, i break the law i go 2 jail and i travel with a passport, what makes mexicans special?

LMAO!!!!! My BFF was telling me about this last night so, I googled it and came across your blog. Besides giving me information as to why it supposedly rains on this date. , it made me laugh so hard!! I can't believe some people get their " chonies" ( underwear) in a bunch! So funny how some thought you were a white racist & then how you posted your family's picture!!! Now, that is one Mexican family if I have ever seen one!! For the record, I'm not making fun of your family . I am Latina myself. LOL keep on doing your thing & keep the sense of humor. Life is just too short to get worked up & read into insignificant things . :)

Glad you could see a little humor in this post. I am still shocked to see new comments on here after four years.

I've been told about this and it seems believable seeing that the entire week says 100 degree weather but then out of no where you get one day that is 75 degrees with clouds and thunder storms in the Summer.

A lot of Southern Californians don't know about this Urban Legend but you can bet your ass that people from the Inland Empire sure know it and will pass it down to their kids.
