Cranky Boy

Let's talk about Wyatt and his crankiness. For the most part Wyatt is a happy little guy. He is content to lay in his crib and look around or sit for a while in his swing. The problem comes when Wyatt is napping. First of all he is getting better and better at fighting his sleep. He now knows how to kick his legs and push against me or push off the couch to express his disdain for sleep. Once we get through that battle, all is well in the kingdom. Until the king is woken prematurely from his slumber. Then The Beast manifests himself. The Beast will not sleep for more than an hour at a time throughout the rest of the day. He is cranky and consoles himself by nursing every forty-five minutes. The Beast will not rest no matter how tired and whacked out he is. And when he wakes it is with flared nostrils and a loud roar. Yesterday, The Beast was up from 2 in the afternoon till 4 in the morning. Using only the smallest of cat naps to recharge is raging search for the one who woke him in the first place. It was not until I gave in and put him in our bed that the beast subsided. Although even then for as tired as he was The Beast only slept for three hours.
So what is it about being woken early that throws Wyatt off? I am not sure, but it is a pretty consistent behaviour. No matter what I try, when Wyatt is in that mood nothing is good enough I thought yesterday that he would eventually just sleep from exhaustion. Unfortunately for Caleb and I that did not happen. Oh well. That's life with a small child I guess.

We did it!

Last night Wyatt slept in his bassinet and I got to sleep in my own bed! Now, this is only the first time, but lets hope he catches on fast.
The funny part is, it was harder on me than it was on him. I missed him during the night and had to talk myself out of picking him up and putting him in my bed -He will only be this small for a short while you know- So yup, no crying at all. He squirmed around when he was hungry, I fed him and he went back to sleep. His sleep schedule is not as long as when I hold him. He slept for three hours, woke up, three hours again, and now he is asleep again. Not bad at all. I just need to get him sleeping earlier in the evening. He did go to sleep till around one in the morning. So we are going to get this bassinet thing down and then start working on getting him to sleep at around 11.
I'm telling you this child is progressing in leaps and bounds. He has got the be the smartest kid I ever had. :)

Training

I have secret to tell. Wyatt sleeps with me every night. Either in our bed (when I sleep in bed) or literally on me while I sleep on the couch. The couch? yes, the couch. Most nights I sleep on the couch with Wyatt because I want Caleb to get a good nights rest. Seeing has he brings home the bacon, I need to make sure my little pay check stays healthy and rested.
Be all that as it may, I am now trying to train Wyatt to sleep on his own before it is too late I have a five year old in my bed every night. I have been putting him down for his day time naps in his bassinet rather than sleeping with him, or putting him in his swing. Today he slept for almost two hours. That is a great accomplishment.
One of the biggest reasons Wyatt ended up sleeping on me/with me during the night is he sleeps so much better and longer that way. So really I just need to build up the courage to try sleeping him by himself at night, even if it means losing more sleep. But its a very big sacrifice seeing as last night he slept for at least 5 if not 6 hours straight (I'm not sure of how long because I was totally knocked out). I am just not sure if I am ready to trade that kind of sleep for two hour sessions again.

My new phone

So I finally got a new phone. Actually Caleb bought one for me. It's the new(ish) Blackberry Flip. I totally love it. These phones are still relatively expensive. The ones I found were priced at over 200 dollars. Luckily Caleb was on Ebay one day and found one that was listed wrong. The seller listed the phone under the wrong model number and never fixed it so we were the only ones bidding on it. I am so glad to have a new phone. My old chunky phone really needed to be trashed years ago. Yes, years.
There was one problem with my new phone that I did not find until I had already had it a few days. I was looking through my pictures and I found one that I did not take. The previous owner erased everything from the phone, but left a little gift for me. It was so funny and weird at the same time that I didn't quite know how to react. I think the hairiness of his legs is what left me speechless.

This is weird right? even now I am totally weirded out by it. Look at thos nasty toe nails! Gross.

Pictures

A few newer pics of our little old man.
It is so crazy how quickly Wyatt is growing. He is officially out of NB sizes and trying to fill in 0-3. Baby clothing is weird. NB is so tight on Wyatt, but the next size up (0-3) is so baggy.

Am I working with count chocula again?

Ok. So lets talk about this.
Wyatt has learned to hold his pee and release it just as I am closing his diaper, thus catching me off guard to the point that I scream and jump back. This has happened twice today and it seems like everyday for the past three days.
The first time ended up with Wyatt getting a little more than a sponge bath afterwards. This is how that happened:
Earlier in the day Wyatt had a major diaper blow out, not being able to submerge him in water I had to settle for a wipe down. I didn't feel like he was clean but it was all I could do. Later in the day as I was closing his diaper Wyatt let me and the whole nursery have it. i was so shocked that at first I did not even realize he was peeing on my arm, then the carpet, and I am pretty sure he got it all over himself. In my frenzied state I grabbed him off of the changing table rushed him to the sink, turned on the water, grabbed the baby shampoo, a cloth and gave him a good scrub down. I think it all happened in about ten seconds.
The last couple of times have been after his little sponge bath. This morning and this afternoon have been right as I finished changing is diaper. Seriously he has the timing down perfect. I think I am going to invest in a hazmat uniform otherwise I don't know how many showers I am going to end up taking everyday.

Wyatts first starbucks run

The coffee bug bit me today. Had a craving for pumpkin spice latte. So good.

Slept in his crib for about ten minutes today. The swing and someones arms are pretty much the only places he will sleep longer than twenty minutes.

Hangin' out with Mom

Diaper Change

This is my child

Ok so I found something Wyatt got from me: Ghetto
That's right, he got a little street attitude from his mother. LOL yeah right, me ghetto don't think so, he must have got this look from uncle Andy or Justine.
But doesn't he look cute. "Yo yo yo, Wud up?" lol.

Now that my emotions have settled down here's a little update:

Wyatt is doing well. He is sleeping right now and really I should be too, but I hate sleeping the day away no matter how tired I am. His wound looks like it is healing nicely, so far he has not had any extra bleeding. I am healing my own wounds with Chocolate Cake my mom sent over. lol, nothing makes you feel better faster than chocolate cake and a glass of non-fat milk. That's like a six dollar burger and a diet coke, isn't it.

Hard day.

Today Wyatt was ,ummm how can I say this nicely, nipped; that sounds polite.
I took him to the Dr.'s by my self. Wyatt slept while we waiting in the waiting room. When he woke up he was naked and laying on a cold table. Not something he expected at all. He was weighed (10 pounds now!) and prepped, then the Dr. ordered me to leave the room. Apparently they don't allow Moms to stay and watch (not that I was planning on looking). When I was called back to Wyatt's room he was crying so hard. At first I didn't feel that bad because I knew he would cry a lot. It was when I got him to the car and he was still crying that I began to cry. Wyatt could not even nurse, he would eat for a while and then pull himself up into a ball and scream (and the Dr. told me he would not feel any pain). This from a baby that really only cries when he gets his diaper changed. I felt so bad for allowing my little guy to go through such a dumb ritual all for the sake of fitting in the society. My mom will argue with me about the importance of circumcision, but really all of the arguments have been debunked and it all comes down to peer pressure and fitting in with the norm.
Be all that as it may, I gave in and had my little guy snipped. He is surviving and so far is doing ok. He is a little late in getting this procedure done (don't ask why) and so I am sure that plays into why he is feeling a little more sore than others do. I know he will recover just fine, it is just so unnerving to hear your little baby cry inconsolably and know that it's basically your fault. (harsh I know) Anyway, in other less negative news, Wyatt's umbilical stub is falling off!!! Hurray for growing up.

Our first missed Sunday :(

Ok, so we missed Sunday morning. Why? because we are new at this, that's why. :)
We missed because Wyatt was up all night and pretty much all morning (which means his parents were up as well) . He would sleep for an hour wake up cranky, eat, sleep and wake up cranky. It was not until this morning that we figured out our little guy had gas pains. So at about noon today Caleb went to the store bought some mylicon (said a little prayer) and now it seems as though all is well. Wyatt is sitting in his swing enjoying classical music, daddy is heating up the grill to cook some steaks, and mommy is blogging away.

I got to say we have to best baby ever. Even with his pains he did not go into a screaming fit. He cried and was obviously hurting, but always kept his cool. :)

This goes with the pictures

Ok my computer is acting up and so I have to do this post in two sections.
The pictures below are from Wyatt's first service.
Let me just say that getting up on Sunday morning was hard. Harder than my years of being in the youth group and staying out all night and then getting up to be on the bus. Caleb and I almost didn't go. Wyatt had been up all night and we were just exhausted out of our minds. In the end common sense kicked in and told us this is not the last time we are going to be tired and if we miss church because we are tired we will never go. So we got ourselves up out of bed, got there on time (maybe early, can't remember that long ago), and we were so glad we did. Otherwise we would have missed a very special service. During the second session Bro. Booker had everyone walk outside and stand on the spot were our new building will soon be. Then they had a short service. It was so neat and I am so grateful little Wyatt got to be apart of it.

Sunday Morning

It's a learning process

A few things I have learned about Wyatt:
  • He fight his naps. It's really weird because he goes to sleep just fine at night. Something about his daytime naps, he fights them for a few minutes and then he is out.
  • Loud choir music helps. We found this out on Sunday night during choir practice (that's right Grandpa, not only was I early to church I was there for choir practice) . Wyatt slept through the whole thing. Then during service he slept through choir again. So I gave it a try at home when he was fighting his nap and it worked. So far he is pretty fond of Clint Brown.
  • Wyatt is a good sleeper. This kid got more than his looks from his Dad. Once Wyatt is sleeping hard it is quite a chore to wake him up. The other night I fell asleep with him and didn't wake up for his next feeding (usually I wake up automatically after about two hours). This wonderful child slept for three hours straight. I had to wake him up because it had been four hours since he last ate.

So that's it so far. All in all everything is going well. I got over my baby blues, which is a wonderful relief. Caleb is getting a pretty good nights rest and has returned to going to the gym at 5am every other day(except for today). Wyatt is getting bigger and bigger, or at least that's what it seems like. The devil Whoot has been banished to the backyard indefinitely and has retaliated by digging up the yard and eating everything in sight. Ok, banished is a strong word, Whoot just comes in during the evening rather than all day long. Mainly, because I can't watch him and the baby so he has to wait till Caleb gets home. Then they wrestle and play fetch in the house while Wyatt and I try to sleep. :)

Everybody Ought to go to Sunday School

Tomorrow is Wyatt's first church service. I can't wait! I am sure Caleb will take lots of pictures so I will try to post them asap.
